Identity Theft

We all know that identity theft can be a financial and emotional tragedy, but do you know what this kind of theft really is? It is when someone gets your personal information and uses it to their advantage without getting any kind of permission from you. Some of the personal information that they get is your name, address, social security number, birth date and pretty much any information that is unique only to you.

Now let's talk about how someone can steal this information from you without your knowledge. One of the easiest ways that thieves go about getting your personal facts is by what some refer to as dumpster diving. This means that thieves will go rummaging through your trash. The only way to prevent this is by shredding all the items that have any of your personal information on them before putting them in your trash.

Another way thieves can steal your information is by simply taking your wallet or purse. This is one of the oldest techniques used by identity thieves, but it allows them to obtain a lot of information about someone. The only way you can prevent this from happening is to be extra careful where you place your purse or wallet and to keep the contents that are in it down to a bare minimum. You should also make sure to write down any information that has to do with any of the contents that are in your purse. An example of this is if you carry a credit card, then make sure you write down all the information that pertains to the card and keep it safely tucked away at home.

These are only two ways of how identity theft can happen, but there are plenty other ways too. The only way to really prevent any of them is to be extra careful when it comes to whom you give your personal information to and where you keep this information that is strictly personal.
